DESCRIPTION:Annual Picnic – June 2024\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome with us on a private backstage tour of the 100-year-old\, historic Ellen Theater\, led by the Executive Director\, John Ludden! \n\n\n\nMembers:  Login for details and to RSVP. \n\n\n\nThe Ellen first opened her doors on December 1\, 1919\, and  hosted variety shows\, silent movies\, school plays\, town band performances and even an opera featuring a live elephant. Unfortunately\, The Ellen\, along with other similar theatres across the country\, suffered decades of disrepair. In 2005\, however\, Montana TheatreWorks\, a local non-profit theatre group\, established the goal of saving The Ellen and purchased the building and in April 2008 began the monstrous task of renovation.  The Ellen reopened her doors on December 4\, 2008 and presented a production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.  \n\n\n\nAmong those who have graced The Ellen stage include Lily Tomlin\, The Vienna Boys Choir\, New York’s The Acting Company\, Herb Alpert\, Ed Asner\, Rita Coolidge\, Arlo Guthrie\, Judy Collins\, and many more.
